It’s day 2 of our roadtrip and we are planning to head from Reno, Nevada to Salt Lake City, Utah – about a 8 hour drive. Here’s the map:

Well…the packing took much longer than anticipated – plus we couldn’t resist one last trip into our favourite city last night!! As a result, we didn’t get a lot of sleep last night and we didn’t push through the long drive to Salt Lake City today. We have stopped for some much needed rest and are spending the night in Reno, Nevada, the “biggest, little city in the world”. We are writing to you from a lovely Starbucks where there is endless coffee (much needed) and free internet (much appreciated). We are hoping to get some good sleep, good breakfast and an early start on the road in the morning. Salt Lake City is an 8 hour drive from Reno through the Rockies, so we should see some fantastic scenery along the way.
Packing is for the birds….! After what felt like forever, we are (finally) just about finished packing and ready to hit the road in the morning. Of course, there’s still those “last minute” things that are likely to take forever!! The pusscats are home in Newfoundland safe and sound waiting for us, and we have many a mile to travel before we are reunited. We are both very excited to get on the road and begin the “road trip adventure extraordinaire”.
Our trip is going to be a long, but interesting one. In all, the total distance “in a straight line” is about 5500 miles, so we estimate it will be at least 6000 miles before we get home. Here is a rough idea of the route we intend to take on our way back to Newfoundland:
We haven’t done a lot of detailed planning on the trip, so there will probably be some unexpected route changes, delays and side trips as we go. Tomorrow we are hoping to make it all the way to Salt Lake City, Utah in one day but it’s at least a 11 hour drive! We’ll see how we do as we go… Stay tuned!
